What Level 922 Is

Level 922, widely known within the community as the "Endless Spiral Stairs" or "Endless Interlude," is a vertical-focused hidden level in Escape the Backrooms. Structurally, it consists of an infinitely descending concrete spiral staircase surrounded by total darkness. The level has no standard enemy entities chasing you dynamically on the stairs, but it introduces a severe psychological and mechanical challenge: finding the elusive Floor 94 exit gate amidst hundreds of identical floors.

The core objective is deceptively simple but mechanically tedious: you must descend the spiral staircase until you spot a prominent "94" painted on the concrete support pillar, then immediately throw yourself over the ledge into the central abyss to trigger "The Suburbs" secret ending sequence. Because the correct floor spawns entirely at random, completing this level normally can take an immense amount of time.

How to Access Level 922 (Rooftop Card Swipe Route)

Following recent game updates, the entrance route to Level 922 has been repositioned. It can now only be accessed after successfully clearing all primary progressive levels. You must navigate to the elevated rooftop access point while keeping a sharp eye out for local threats like Xiao Yan, who will pursue you relentlessly until you clear the threshold of the final security doorway.

Level 922 Access Checklist:
  • Ensure all baseline progression maps are completely cleared to unlock the endgame roof pathways.
  • Sprint to the high security entrance zone and lose any active entity aggro at the doorframe.
  • Equip your NC Key Card (Work Badge) and swipe it at the illuminated electronic reader panel to unlock the heavy door.
  • Step into the pitch-black transitional room ahead to load into the infinite staircase interlude. (Note: A separate return door is located immediately inside if you wish to backtrack).

The FPS Limit Trick: How to Descend Faster

Under normal gameplay conditions, jogging down the outer edge of the spiral stairs requires careful camera manipulation and takes several minutes due to the massive pool of potential floor spawns. Experienced speedrunners use an FPS limitation trick tied to the game's movement physics:

  • The Mechanic: Go into your game graphics settings and manually cap or limit your frame rate (FPS) to a very low value (e.g., 30 FPS or lower) to induce heavy structural lag.
  • The Execution: Hug the outermost edge of the concrete railing and sprint forward. Due to how the player-movement velocity scales with low frame rates, your character will begin spinning around the central pillar at an extreme, automated speed.
  • The Glitch Automation: This method spins you downward so fast that you don't even need to look at individual floor markers. When your character model passes the dynamically loaded Floor 94, the extreme lag combined with your high downward velocity will often cause you to naturally glitch and clip straight through the floor boundaries, falling automatically toward the exit trigger.

Locating Floor 94 & Triggering the Leap of Faith

If you prefer a legitimate run or if the FPS glitch doesn't automatically clip you through the map, you must understand the random generation rules governing Floor 94. The exit floor is completely unpredictable: it can spawn as high as the 10th or 20th floor, or it might bury itself deep into the 60s, 100s, or even well past the 150th flight of stairs.

As you run or spin downwards, closely monitor the vertical concrete pillars. The moment you visually confirm the painted "94" numbers, immediately halt your forward momentum. Do not keep running past it. Walk straight to the ledge adjacent to the number 94 sign and perform a blind leap of faith down into the central hollow abyss. Hitting this specific zone correctly bypasses the infinite loop, immediately fading the screen to black and safely loading you into "The Suburbs" secret ending area.

Things we check before pushing ahead

We use this as the quick “don’t make the same mistake twice” checklist. If your room, spawn, or prompt does not match the video, stop and check the normal route first—patches and co-op timing can make an old shortcut look tempting when it simply will not work.

Check 01
Find the shutter-gate entrance

Make sure this is actually the step you are on. If an item or prompt is missing, backtrack one room and check the inventory first.

Check 02
Swipe the M.E.G. card

Look around slowly before guessing. Props can hide chairs, switches, notes, and pickups; a second camera angle is usually faster than brute force.

Check 03
Enter the infinite stairs

Call out what was pressed, collected, or opened. It prevents the classic “we all thought somebody did it” reset.

Check 04
Low-FPS stair descent

If a skip behaves inconsistently, leave it and take the intended route. A clean run beats getting stuck in geometry.

Multiplayer tips

On Level 922, keep the team together on the stairs and have one player call the floor labels. If somebody sees the wrong number, everyone stops before jumping.
