Make sure this is actually the step you are on. If an item or prompt is missing, backtrack one room and check the inventory first.
Core Rule: Never Stand Still on the Grass
Crazy Growth is built around one simple punishment rule: if you stop moving on the grass field, the grass can bind you in place. Treat every grass section as a movement check. Keep tapping movement, circle in place if needed, and never pause to read the room while standing on the hazard surface.
Before dropping into the route, look for the tied-up person shown above the area as your warning. The level is teaching you the main mechanic early: grass is not just decoration. It is the active threat, and slow decision-making is what gets players caught.
Use the Lever Cart to Cross the First Gap
Go down from the starting side and use the lever to move the cart or elevator platform across the gap. In solo play, the cart can move by itself once you trigger it correctly. In co-op, one player may need to work the lever from below while another rides or waits on the opposite side.
When you step onto the grass or rope-covered floor near this section, keep moving the entire time. The route is not mechanically hard, but it punishes players who stop to line up too carefully. Pull the lever, cross to the opposite side, and use the switch there to open the door across the route.
Co-op Rope Handling and the Knife
On the opposite side, there is a rope used to pull a teammate up. Solo players can ignore part of that rescue setup because the cart routing handles the required movement by itself. In co-op, drop or position the rope so the lower player can be pulled up safely.
Next, grab the knife. The knife is a rescue tool, not a general weapon. If a teammate gets trapped by grass, use the knife to cut them free. Be careful with unnecessary swings: if there is no grass on the teammate, you can damage or kill them instead of helping.
Cut the Rope and Break the Glass Cover
After securing the knife, work the lever route again so you can return across the platform path. Move over the wooden board and find the rope tied near the glass cover area. Cut the rope to drop the coil or weight onto the glass. This breaks the cover and opens the next puzzle layer.
Listen for the sizzling or tightening sound while moving through grass sections. That sound is the warning that the grass is close to binding you. If you hear it, do not stop to fight the mechanic; keep moving until you are clear.
Find the Four Buttons and Watch the Lights
After the glass breaks, look for the four indicator lights. They start in a non-complete state, and each correct button press turns one light white. One button is near the first accessible side, another is on the left route, and multiple buttons sit on the right-side path or upper route.
The layout includes a small maze and stairs near the later buttons. Move through the maze, climb the stairs, and press the upper button. If you still have enough stamina, you can drop down after pressing it to shorten the return. Once all four lights have changed, the door opens.
Final Elevator Exit
When the four-button door opens, go through and press the elevator. Avoid backtracking too far after committing to the elevator room, because some route transitions can lock you out of the previous note or side area.
The safe completion checklist is: keep moving on grass, operate the cart levers, use rope support in co-op, take the knife, cut trapped teammates or puzzle ropes only when needed, press all four buttons, confirm the door opens, then enter the elevator.
Escape the Backrooms: How to Beat the "Crazy Growth" Grass Puzzle (Level 931) Video
We use this as the quick “don’t make the same mistake twice” checklist. If your room, spawn, or prompt does not match the video, stop and check the normal route first—patches and co-op timing can make an old shortcut look tempting when it simply will not work.
Look around slowly before guessing. Props can hide chairs, switches, notes, and pickups; a second camera angle is usually faster than brute force.
Call out what was pressed, collected, or opened. It prevents the classic “we all thought somebody did it” reset.
If a skip behaves inconsistently, leave it and take the intended route. A clean run beats getting stuck in geometry.
In the Grassrooms, call every lever and rope cut before moving on. Keep the group on the safe path together; do not stop in the grass while waiting for someone behind.
